ABTA Reveals 2025 Travel Trends

More holidaymakers are to go in search of adventures to far-flung destinations over the coming year, ABTA’s Travel Trends for 2025 report suggests. There will be an increase in visits to long-haul locations outside of Europe and North America, with 34.2% of people saying they would be interested in doing so – a rise from 28.2% the previous year.

Asia is anticipated to see the most significant increase in visitors, with ABTA’s research indicating that 11% of travellers aim to explore the continent, up from 8.9% last year. Popular destinations include Japan, Thailand, India, and China.

Visitor numbers to Africa and Oceania are also expected to climb, with Australia in particular proving to be a major draw.

The report also highlights a growing trend towards ‘baecations’ – or holidays taken with significant others. The past 12 months saw 44% of travellers choosing to holiday with their partners, an increase from 40% previously.

ABTA also believes that luxury stays will gain popularity in 2025, especially among Gen Z. An impressive 22% of Gen Z individuals plan to increase their holiday budgets to secure more luxurious experiences, a stark contrast to 14% of Millennials, 11% of Baby Boomers, and 8% of Gen X.

The coming 12 months could also see further increases in winter breaks, as ABTA discovered that holidaymakers are in search of more ways to experience new activities at this time of year.
