It seems a lifetime ago since we were basking in the Miami sun at the Celebrity Edge naming ceremony and now we’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of Celebrity Apex in Southampton. Fortunately, the most anticipated new cruise ship of 2018 isn’t easily forgotten, so we thought we’d share a little reminiscing about some of our favourite features on board. Some big, some small, but all amazing reasons to cruise on Celebrity Edge or her sister ship, Celebrity Apex, when she arrives in 2020.
THE ALUMINIUM WATER BOTTLES
We weren’t kidding when we said some of the things we loved on Celebrity Edge were the smallest of details. While aluminium water bottles might seem like nothing of note, they’re a big change in the fight against single-use plastics and a huge step for Celebrity Cruises on the sustainability front.
THE SERVICE
We were one of around 2,900 people on board Celebrity Edge for the naming ceremony, so when our waiter from the previous night recognised us at a tasting event – and told us exactly what we had eaten for all three courses in the Cosmopolitan restaurant – it blew us away. Things went way beyond service with a smile on Celebrity Edge and we’d go so far as to say it was some of the best we’ve had on any cruise ship, ever. Bold claim indeed.
THE SHOPPING
The only thing we enjoy more than splashing in the seas on a Caribbean is splashing the cash and Celebrity Edge is an enabler for shopaholics. The high-end contingent comes courtesy of Cartier, Bulgari and Tiffany on Deck 5, while the Jo Loves perfume counter by Jo Malone is one of only two in the world. There’s the Edge Steel Collection, a limited-edition jewellery range created using the first cut of steel used to build the ship and inspired by the ship’s design too. Finally, books and keepsakes purchased from the Malala Fund Collection, created in collaboration with the ship’s godmother Malala Yousafzai, will see 100% of the proceeds go to the fund.
THE WINGS
Celebrity Edge has no shortage of Instagram-worthy spots but there is one that promises to appear in everyone’s feeds next year. An enormous pair of white butterfly wings, lit with a purple glow come evening, are too tempting an Instagram opportunity to pass upon. An outfit change meant we were forced to get both a day and a night shot…#doitforthegram
THE CABANAS
If you’re all about the private beach club vibe on holiday, you’ll love the ship’s private cabanas. Located on the starboard side, facing outwards towards the ocean for epic views, Celebrity Edge’s six cabanas promise to lend an Ibiza-style exclusivity to your pool days. Rental includes water, beers, soft drinks, fresh fruit skewers, a selection of food including burgers, sandwiches and wraps, plus refreshing facial sprays and cold towels. But the best bit of all? A suitcase packed full of retro board games. No, YOU’RE too competitive!
All these little things add up to one seriously impressive cruise. We can’t wait to see what Celebrity Apex has to offer as Celebrity Edge is not easily forgotten. But don’t take our word for it; book your Celebrity Edge cruise today and find out for yourself.
