AmaWaterways christens AmaMagna

Europe’s biggest river cruise ship, AmaMagna, was christened at a ceremony in Austria. At 22 metres wide, AmaMagna is almost twice the width of standard river ships and will only sail cruises on the Danube.

The ship’s godmother, US travel television host Samantha Brown, broke a champagne bottle against the hull in keeping with tradition.

AmaMagna accommodates for 196 passengers and more than half of the 98 staterooms are suites measuring between 335 and 710 square foot. The suites feature outside balconies, open seating areas and bathrooms with double sinks and walk-in showers.

The naming ceremony on Thursday in Grein included speeches from Schreiner, Karst and Brown, followed by local entertainment celebrating Sound of Music and Austrian singer Johann Hölzel, better known as Falco.
