Barbados Removes Testing Requirement for Vaccinated Travellers

Barbados will no longer require travellers to present a negative Covid-19 test on arrival to the island, it has been announced. Effective from 25 May 2022, the change applies to fully vaccinated holidaymakers – those who have not been vaccinated will still need to provide a valid negative PCR or rapid antigen test.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley explained that as more than 70 per cent of the eligible population in the Caribbean nation had now been fully vaccinated, it felt appropriate to make the change. She also revealed that visitors to the Caribbean island had declined 90 per cent over the past two years, but signs are promising that this trend is now being reversed.

In another change to Barbados covid protocols, mask wearing has now become optional outdoors and will only be mandatory indoors and while travelling on public transport.

Senator the Hon. Lisa Cummins, Minister of Tourism and International Transport, said: “What this signals to our travellers is that it is safe for them to come to Barbados, and we are in a position where we can comfortably accommodate many of the same measures they are experiencing at home, such as the protocols for mask-wearing and testing for certain activities.”
