The only thing we love nearly as much as cruising is food and the latest Celebrity Edge reveal event has really tickled our taste buds.
The ship will feature more dining and bar options than ever seen in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, with 29 restaurants and bars poised to satisfy an appetite and whet your whistle. Created under the watchful eye of Michelin starred chef, Cornelius Gallagher, Celebrity Edge’s culinary offering will deliver flavours from around the world in four main dining rooms. Between them, the four restaurants will offer the largest ever selection of dishes ever seen on a Celebrity Cruises ship.
The Cosmopolitan Restaurant will dish up new American cuisine, with guests entering through a wine display tower inspired by those seen across the Solstice-class ships.
Normandie Restaurant pays homage to the food of France and is based upon the same concept as Celebrity Cruises’ signature French restaurant, Murano. Decorated in typically Parisian style, the restaurant will feature original wood panels taken from the SS Normandie, once the fastest and costliest ship at sea.
Tuscan Restaurant is a nod to Celebrity’s wildly-popular Tuscan Grill and will draw design inspiration from Milan. Guests will tuck into Italian-inspired fare, including freshly made pasta.
Cyprus Restaurant pays homage to Celebrity Cruises’ Greek heritage. Designed by Patricia Urquiola, the name behind Eden, the restaurant will dish up Mediterranean cuisine with a focus on Greek cuisine.
Each main dining room will see nightly menu changes, with 75% of the menu consistent across all four of the complimentary restaurants and the remaining 25% showcasing dishes specific to the region of the world that inspired the restaurant’s design. The approach is aimed at offering something for all appetites in every dining room.
Five more dining venues will complete the complimentary offering, including Celebrity favourites the Oceanview Café and the Mast Grill, plus the new-to-the-fleet Grand Plaza Café, The Spa Café and Juice Bar, and Eden Café, which will feature in one of the most revolutionary public spaces seen at sea.
Edge debuts a partnership between Celebrity Cruises and TableMation Studios too, using an innovative 3D-projection process known as ‘skullmapping’ to bring technology to the table. Virtual projections will add a fun element to selected dining experiences, including the Le Petit Chef concept, which will see an animated character appear on guests’ plates and prepare their meals virtually while they wait for the real thing.
Celebrity Cruises has further developed its Celebrity Select dining approach for Celebrity Edge, creating Celebrity Select Plus. Guests will still have the option to choose sitting time and table location, but will now also have the choice of which restaurant they would like to dine in each evening too. Reservations can be made at any of the four restaurants whenever guests wish.
Alongside four complimentary main restaurants, Celebrity Cruises will also debut seven brand-new, never seen before speciality restaurants on Celebrity Edge.
Fine Cut Steakhouse will deliver upscale dining at dinner, while Le Grand Bistro is all about classic French fare. The restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and will also offer a to-go section stacked with crunchy baguettes, cheese and meat boards, crepes and more.
Burgers, brisket and beers are all on the menu at the Rooftop Garden Grill, where the American ‘backyard barbecue’ theme will be taken up a notch by those amazing sea views.
The Celebrity Cruises reveal also elaborated on plans for the revolutionary Magic Carpet. When positioned on the very top level, the space will host ‘Dinner on the Edge’. The concept focuses around chefs going ashore in the destination of the day to collect ingredients, before creating a fantastic meal inspired by the region.
When the Magic Carpet platform aligns on level 5, it will become a cantilevered al fresco extension of Raw on 5, a seafood restaurant inspired by both St Tropez and New England.
The final speciality dining venue on Celebrity Edge will be Eden, an all-encompassing sensory experience created to merge performance art with fine dining, along the same lines as New York’s famed Speak No More or the popular Cirque du Soleil. Edenists will deliver dishes with dramatic flair, with each one created to encourage guests to interact with the cuisine.
Private restaurants for AquaClass and Suite Class guests – Blu and Luminae respectively – will return. Blu will have a focus on healthy, wholesome dishes created using three key ingredients, while Kelly Hoppen-designed Luminae will showcase beautiful ocean views almost enticing enough to distract from the food.
The eleven bars and lounges on Celebrity Edge will be a combination of familiar Celebrity Cruises favourites like the popular Martini Bar and new spaces like the Eden Bar, which will feature a living plant wall from which world-class mixologists will clip the mint for your mojitos right before muddling.
The wine list on Edge will be the most comprehensive in the fleet, increasing from 350 to 500 varieties, thanks to the creation of a new ancient world’s wine list with wines from the likes of Israel, Turkey, China and India.
