Counting Down To Celebrity Silhouette In Southampton

Celebrity Silhouette arrives in Southampton this Saturday, replacing Celebrity Eclipse to sail a variety of 7 to 14-night itineraries from the UK to the Norwegian Fjords, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean, Canaries, Iceland and Ireland. Celebrity Eclipse has captured the hearts of UK cruisers over the last eight years and Celebrity Silhouette, the second newest ship in the fleet, has some big shoes to fill. We’ll be checking out every nook and cranny of the ship on her Southampton debut sailing to Paris this weekend but in the meantime, here are some of the things Silhouette is set to bring to us lucky UK cruisers.

An all-new top deck

If you have sailed with Celebrity Cruises, you will already know that there is no better feeling than real grass beneath your feet when you are miles out to sea. The Lawn Club is entirely unique, with half an acre of lawn on each Solstice class ship, and we’re relieved to see that it is going nowhere when Celebrity Silhouette comes to Southampton. There are some changes afoot however, including the creation of The Alcoves, eight for-fee cabana-style havens of relaxation on The Lawn Club, each accommodating six guests between 9am and 9pm. The chic settings are serviced by Alcove Attendants and offer a secluded spot in which to relax on deck. The Alcoves are incredibly popular so it’s important to book ahead if you fancy snaring one. Port days cost $99 per alcove, while sea days will set you back $249; not too shabby when you consider that you can fit six people in each alcove comfortably. The price also alcohol, fresh fruit and cheese platters, plus the option to order from the room service menu so you can dine al fresco.

The Lawn Club Grill

We’re sad to see the Corning Glass Show go on Celebrity Silhouette but we can’t wait to take on the role of Grill Master at the Lawn Club Grill. We all love a barbecue when the weather hots up and this speciality venue brings open-air grilling to the ocean. Pick a table overlooking the Lawn Club and roast your own meat and seafood over the open flame, all under the guidance of an expert chef armed with a seriously covetable collection of herbs and spices. Feast on marinated lamb chops, grilled Atlantic salmon or juicy Tandoori chicken, with a side of mac n cheese and a homemade flatbread factoring in there too. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert; we heard rumours of a cheesecake. See; cooking your own tea isn’t such a chore after all is it?

The Martini Bar

The ice-topped bar is coming to Southampton and we’ll be first in line for pre-dinner drinks at the Solstice-class signature. It’s the chicest spot on the ship, its master mixologists putting on a show to shake and stir martinis Mr Bond himself would be proud of. We’ll take the Candied Apple Martini please good sir!

If you’re planning a cruise on Celebrity Silhouette from Southampton, don’t forget to include a drinks package – or look out for special offers throwing one into your fare for free! It’s a must if you’re going to sample every tipple on the best cocktail menus at sea.

Family fun

With their Modern Luxury appeal, it’s easy to overlook just how good Celebrity Cruises are for families. Celebrity Silhouette will bring a packed programme of kids’ clubs, family-friendly staterooms, child-friendly excursions and even babysitting services when it arrives in Southampton, offering anyone looking for a family cruise a whole new option for the summer holidays.

Celebrity’s VIP pass is a must if the kids are planning to take full advantage of the slumber parties, lunches and Lido Deck dinners throughout the cruise. It’ll also earn them special goodie bags and the chance to go behind-the-scenes on an exclusive ship tour.

Celebrity Cruises is also recognised as an official Autism Friendly Cruise Line and Silhouette is one of the best in the fleet in terms of autism-friendly activities for little ones.

Grand Cuvee

Celebrity Silhouette dishes up some of the best food you’ll ever eat on land or sea and those taste sensations aren’t limited to the speciality dining venues. The Grand Cuvee Dining Room is easily one of our favourite on any ship, a huge space of a hall with an attention-grabbing chandelier and a vast wine tower that houses 2,500 bottles; oenophiles rejoice! The Adam D. Tihany-designed affair is a jaw dropper and the meals served there don’t disappoint, from the eggs benedict at breakfast to the a la minute mains at dinner.
