In Alaska With Cunard: All Aboard The Rocky Mountaineer

Cunard will return to Alaska in 2019, with Queen Elizabeth becoming the cruise line’s first ship in the region for more than 20 years. Beginning with a voyage from Yokohama, Japan, on 5 May 2019, Queen Mary will sail to Alaska, where the youngest ship in the Cunard fleet will remain until the end of June. Thrilling Vancouver round-trip itineraries won’t only promise culture-crammed ports of call including Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, but also scenic cruising through the dramatic Inside Passageway.

For many, a cruise to Alaska is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so it only makes sense to want to make the most of your time in the Last Frontier. Cunard in Alaska will make it effortless for travellers to combine an Alaska cruise on Queen Elizabeth with one of travel’s most iconic journeys too. Described by National Geographic as ‘one of the world’s greatest trips’ and by Lonely Planet as ‘one of the world’s ultimate experiences’, the Rocky Mountaineer promises the trip of a lifetime. Combining your Cunard cruise to Alaska with a pre-or post-cruise Rocky Mountaineer train journey will be unforgettable.

Combine A Rocky Mountaineer Tour With Your Cunard Alaska Cruise

Here at Bolsover Cruise Club, we can put together your perfect Cunard in Alaska package.

We are Cunard specialists and the knowledge of our team takes all the hard work out of planning your great adventure in Alaska. We can extend your time with pre-or post-cruise hotel stays in Vancouver, or even arranging for you to turn your Alaska cruise and stay into a multi-centre holiday, making plans for you to fly into a different city before joining Queen Elizabeth in Vancouver to begin your cruise.

The Rocky Mountaineer Rail Road pre-or post-cruise land tour can be added to selected Alaska cruises. There are two options available: a 3-night tour combining a two-day Rocky Mountaineer journey with an overnight stay in Vancouver or a 5-night option that gives you a whole three nights to spend in the bustling seaport city, before you board Rocky Mountaineer for your railroad journey. Both options involve an overnight stay in Kamloops between your two days on the train.

Here’s everything you need to know about getting ‘all aboard!’ the Rocky Mountaineer on an Alaska cruise and stay package with Cunard.

Make Yourself Comfortable In The Goldleaf Carriage

All Rocky Mountaineer tours booked alongside a Cunard cruise to Alaska will benefit from the train’s renowned GoldLeaf Service. Just as Cunard is famed for the elegant White Star Service on its ships, Rocky Mountaineer is celebrated for the attention to detail which comes with travelling in GoldLeaf. The difference is noticeable from the moment you board the bi-level domed carriage. Your plush cream leather seat has double the legroom of a standard train, your seat reclining almost fully without risk of encroaching on your neighbour’s personal space. Domed ceilings deliver panoramic 180-degree views of blue skies and Canada’s jaw-dropping scenery, a must when the Rocky Mountaineer takes you through the awesome Canadian Rockies and beyond.

Delectable Fine Dining In The Canadian Wilderness

Wining and dining on the Rocky Mountaineer is a fine affair. A team of executive chefs enlisted from Michelin star restaurants and five-star hotels oversee a team of almost 80 in the full kitchen, where delicious a la carte dishes are whipped up as the train travels through the heart of the Canadian wilderness. Guests travelling in GoldLeaf carriages will enjoy dining in the dining room downstairs, accessed by a spiral staircase from the upper carriage. Mealtimes are divided into two sittings but don’t worry if all that sightseeing has worked up an appetite; freshly-baked cinnamon scones and cheese and wine are offered as a precursor to the main event while those on the second sitting wait. Local produce and traditional Canadian dishes play a big part in mealtimes, with seven or eight options available to choose from at both breakfast and lunch. Get a taste of Canada with Fraser Valley chicken, Albacore tuna, Alberta pork and – of course – lashings of maple syrup on your pancakes at breakfast. Wines from the BC region are complimentary throughout your time aboard the Rocky Mountaineer, along with other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Meet The Rocky Mountaineer’s Consummate Crew

Your Rocky Mountaineer hosts are handpicked for their bubbly personalities and infection Canadian spirit. They’re on hand to greet you on the red carpet when you arrive at the train and they spend every minute of your time on board making your Rocky Mountaineer experience an unforgettable one. The hosts provide a running commentary to the scenery outside, from tales of Gold Rush era prospectors and the engineering minds behind the Cisco Bridges to excited announcements that there is a grizzly bear up ahead or a bald eagle above.
