Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed the name of its newest ship, with Norwegian Prima set to debut in summer 2022.
The first of six Prima-class ships will hold 3,215 passengers, making the new class smaller than the Breakaway and Breakaway-Plus class that became the most recent additions to the NCL fleet over the past decade.
Unlike recent newbuilds built constructed in Meyer Werft in Germany, Norwegian Prima is set to be built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.
Speaking about the new Norwegian Cruise Line ship, President Harry Sommer said:
The name ‘Prima,’ which means ‘first’ in Italian, is a natural fit that ties into our legacy of firsts in the industry and a fitting tribute to our new Italian shipbuilding partners at Fincantieri.”
The ship sail inaugural cruises from August 2022, with 10 day voyages scheduled from Amsterdam and Copenhagen to Northern Europe, the Baltic and the Norwegian Fjords.
On 23 September 2022, a Norwegian Prima cruise from Southampton will see her make a 12-day Transatlantic repositioning crossing to New York. From here, the ship will call to Bermuda, before relocating to the Caribbean ahead of a series of voyages from Galveston and Miami.
Spring 2023 will see Norwegian Prima homeport in Port Canaveral to sail the Western Caribbean, before relocating to New York for sailings to Bermuda. A Transatlantic crossing to Iceland will be offered with an ‘immersive Icelandic itinerary’ as the ship heads back to the UK.
Summer 2023 sees Norwegian Prima offer 10 and 11-day sailings of Norway and Iceland with Reykjavik and Southampton as homeports. A final 14-day roundtrip sailing from Southampton on 17 September will call at Ireland, Iceland and Norway.
