Anthem of the Seas is in Southampton for a summer of staycations and boy, what a summer she has in store for you. Here are ten things you (probably) never knew you could do on Anthem of the Seas – or ten reasons why you should join the Royal Caribbean favourite with the family this summer.
Scaling a climbing wall hundreds of feet above the ocean; riding the waves on the FlowRider® surf simulator; take flight in winds of 100mph on RipCord™ by iFLY®. If you don’t consider yourself an adrenaline junkie already, you definitely will by the time you step off the ship.
Do you know what people don’t do enough of these days? Swinging upside down from a couple of ropes suspended 30ft above ground! Luckily, the SeaPlex aboard Anthem of the Seas is on hand to change that. Join the circus (running away optional though difficult in the middle of the ocean), and experience the thrill of trapeze. We’re sure mums and dads will be just thrilled to hear that there is no age limit, so they’re free to join in the fun too!
For today’s teens, Xbox Live is basically life. You can throw all the Caribbean and unlimited buffets at them that you like, but they’d still rather be sat in a dark room with a headset on and another angst ridden teen hundreds of miles away for company. Luckily the Anthem of the Seas’ gaming centre has a whole wall of consoles and headsets, plus a food truck just minutes away. It’s basically hormonal teen heaven.
We’re not sure if it’s that cheeky grin, cockney accent or slick kitchen skills, but there’s something naughty about Jamie Oliver (easy tiger!). Luckily Royal Caribbean has brought him aboard their Quantum-class ships and given you the chance to taste that expert blend of authentic Italian fare with a cheeky Essex twist. Lovely jubbly!
If Jamie Oliver isn’t quite ‘London’ enough for you, reserve your place at the theatre for a performance of We Will Rock You; the smash West End show full to the brim with hits by everyone’s favourite moustache wearer, Freddie Mercury. We defy you not to sing along!
Unleash your inner Pretty Woman (no, not that part) and meander through the designer-clad arcades of The Via. Perfect that pretty face at Bobbi Brown, accessorize at Armani, invest in arm candy at Hublot and be bedazzled at Bvlgari. Now, where’s Richard Gere with his Gold Card?
Prefer meditation to a multitude of activities? Working on your chakras? You don’t have to spend your precious annual leave sipping green tea in a hippy commune to tap into your inner Zen. Anthem of the Seas offers one of the most state-of-the-art fitness centres at sea, and yoga bunnies should pack their mats and practice their poses ready for the daily classes available on board.
Venture down the rabbit hole to Wonderland and ask yourself: What is real and what is imagined? Come over all Alice in Wonderland at Anthem of the Seas’ most exciting restaurant. While you won’t find a Mad Hatter or Cheshire Cat amongst the diners, you can expect teacups cascading from the ceiling, vegetables served in ‘soil’ and candy floss cocktails.
Remember when James Bond had to defeat Le Chiffre in a tense game of high stakes poker in Casino Royale? Well grab your tuxedo because this is your chance to re-enact that very moment…minus the murderous bad guy and stunningly beautiful sidekick.
Tempted? We know you’re tempted. See Anthem’s summer season of UK sailings right here.
