It seems almost impossible to understand Viking’s prominence in the cruising market. They’ve fought a long, hard battle to become a household name, and in doing so have become titans of waterways the world over.

And while Viking’s river cruises may resonate the loudest among cruisers, however, Viking has become a major player in the ocean cruising market. Emma shares her thoughts and insights on Viking Sky.

As you’re about to discover, there’s cruising, there’s luxury cruising, and then there’s Viking luxury cruising

Setting the standard

But what exactly do I mean by this? In the world of cruising, the level of luxury can vary. Viking may not be for those seeking extravagance, but it offers refined experiences in stylish settings. Despite the absence of lavish perks, Viking’s confidence in its inclusive approach is evident. “Included” is a recurring theme, with the cruise line ensuring that guests have access to a wide range of amenities without extra charges. Complimentary drinks and shore excursions further enhance the appeal of Viking’s offerings.

One for all

Viking’s consistency across ships may have drawbacks in lacking unique spots to discover. But it ensures a comforting familiarity, like slipping into cosy slippers, as you embark on each cruise.

With a name like Viking, you won’t be surprised to learn that each ship is beautifully adorned with Scandi styling. Each space is chicer than chic (there are no IKEA Billy bookcases here), and every inch of the onboard spaces was spotless. Even after conquering the seas for seven years, Viking Sky sure looked good on it.

At your service

Viking offers discreet and personalised service, with staff quickly learning guests’ preferences. From remembering names and drink choices to providing unobtrusive assistance, the attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the cruise experience.

Relaxation, guaranteed

Viking’s Nordic Spa stands out for being complimentary, offering a range of amenities from saunas to hot tubs accessible from 8am to 8pm daily. This inclusive spa experience, with no extra charges, sets it apart from other cruise ship spas. The tranquil setting, where I enjoyed solitude for an extended period, made it one of the most memorable and luxurious spa experiences I’ve had at sea.

Culinary experience

Once pampered, dining aboard Viking Sky is a treat. With the main restaurant and two alternative eateries, The Restaurant, Manfredi’s, and The Chef’s Table offer exceptional cuisine. Manfredi’s offers authentic Italian dishes in generous or standard portions, creating an evening of indulgence. Enjoy a leisurely culinary experience, savoring each course and soaking in the ambiance until the last moments of the night.

Great expectations

Viking stands out by emphasising the enjoyment of the ocean experience. Offering a flexible schedule for guests, setting a high standard for luxury cruising.

The only problem you’ll be left with as you return home, is figuring out how any other cruising experience can possibly match up to this. The answer? Book another Viking ocean cruise.
