Cunard is set to celebrate its 185th anniversary in 2025, with a host of events planned both ashore and on board to mark the momentous occasion.
Each member of the four-strong Cunard fleet will be involved throughout the course of the year, and the cruise line’s home port of Liverpool is also lined up to play a starring role.
Sea of Glamour exhibition
Liverpool’s iconic Liver Building will be hosting the Sea of Glamour exhibition, showcasing images throughout the cruise line’s history. Guests are being invited to share their own pictures from on board Cunard ships, some of which will be selected to form part of the exhibition.
The collection will be curated by British photographer Mary McCartney. Submissions need to be made by 9 March 2025 and should be sent via email to cunardphotography@cunard.co.uk.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, emphasised the importance of this initiative: “For 185 years, our ships have been at the heart of unforgettable moments for millions of guests and crew. This is a chance to celebrate those memories and the stories they tell. By sharing your experiences, you’ll help Mary McCartney create something truly unique – an exhibition that brings Cunard’s incredible history to life for everyone to enjoy.”
The exhibition will make its debut on 27 May 2025.
Cunard 185th anniversary Event Voyages
A selection of Event Voyages are planned across the fleet, each of which invites guests to witness Cunard’s illustrious history at an onboard exhibition. There will be a sailaway celebration on deck, with performances by the Queens Room musicians and Laurent Perrier pop-up bar. These sailings will also feature an Anniversary Gala Dinner with a keepsake commemorative menu.
Queen Mary 2 – Transatlantic Crossing – 24 June to 1 July 2025
Queen Mary 2 has become synonymous with the Transatlantic Crossing, so it is no surprise that she’s been selected to embark on an extra-special Event Voyage.
Departing Southampton on 24 June, the seven-night sailing to New York City will include Cunard Insight talks delivered by Dr. Stephen Payne, who designed Queen Mary 2, and maritime archaeologist Mensun Bound. Maritime historian Chris Frame will also be making an appearance.
Highlights of the entertainment schedule include an 185th anniversary Big Band Night in the Queens Room, featuring the Queens Room musicians and Royal Court Orchestra. They will perform an evening of big band favourites, including the likes of Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble.
Queen Anne – British Isles – 18 May to 1 June 2025
The newest ship in the Cunard fleet, Queen Anne, will depart on a unique voyage around the British Isles. The 14-night journey will see her return to Liverpool one year after her naming ceremony, with an appearance from maritime historian Eric Flounders.
Queen Victoria – Central Mediterranean – 30 June to 7 July 2025
This seven-night voyage on board Queen Victoria will be a hub of celebration, as the ship is transformed for the 185th anniversary events. Maritime historian Roy Paul will be telling fascinating stories, and there will be special performances throughout the week.
Queen Elizabeth – Western Caribbean – 9 December to 18 December 2025
Cunard’s 185th anniversary celebrations will be Caribbean-bound at the end of the year, as Queen Elizabeth prepares to mark the occasion. On this nine-night sailing, maritime historian Bill Miller will deliver Cunard Insight talks – just one of the standout moments from what is guaranteed to be a memorable journey.
