The next-generation ship from Princess Cruises, Sun Princess, has reached a major construction milestone after being ‘floated out’ of the shipyard in Italy. The momentous occasion was marked at Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, and signals that most of the construction of the new ship has now been completed. Efforts will now be focused on finalising the interiors on board.

Fincantieri has its own tradition in selecting a ‘Madrina’ to offer blessings and good wishes for the new vessel. Princess Cruises Hotel General Manager Simona Stumberger was chosen for the honour.

John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, commented: “Simona is the ideal candidate to serve as Madrina of our newest ship, Sun Princess, because she embodies all the best qualities that our company has to offer – an unwavering commitment to service, hospitality and friendliness.

“Sun Princess will usher in an exciting new era for our company and the industry, and we can’t think of a better person to serve in this important role.”

Princess Cruises also announced that Gennaro Arma will be the Captain of Sun Princess. He will oversee the ship’s final stages of construction, and work closely with brand’s naval architects, engineers and shipbuilding experts, as well as the shipyard management team.

Sun Princess is due to enter service in early 2024. The 175,500-ton, 4,300-guest vessel promises an array of exciting new dining, entertainment and activity offerings, as well as luxurious staterooms and suites across a wide variety of categories.

Cruises on board Sun Princess are available to book now.
