Viking has revealed its partnership with the new Downton Abbey film, reaffirming the company’s commitment to cultural programming. The ocean and river cruise line has joined with Focus Features, Universal Pictures and Carnival Films ahead of the film’s UK release on 29 April 2022.
The continuation of the 2019 feature film sees the principal cast reunite and, for the first time, the Crawley family will travel outside the UK. They will visit the south of France to investigate the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.
Karine Hagen, Executive Vice President of Viking, said: “Many of our guests were introduced to both Viking and Highclere Castle while watching the acclaimed Downton Abbey series. For more than a decade, we have been connected with Downton Abbey and the team at Carnival Films, through the television series and the first film, and we are proud to continue that partnership
“Offering Privileged Access to cultural treasures around the world is a key aspect in the Viking way of travel—and our experiences at Highclere Castle, developed in close collaboration with the Carnarvon family, have become cherished favorites among our guests.”
Viking has been offering guests the opportunity to experience life at Highclere Castle – now home to the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon – since 2013. A number of pre- and post-cruise extensions have been created, which are available to guests on select river and ocean cruises. The Oxford & Highclere Castle and Great Homes, Gardens & Gin extensions both come highly rated and enable Viking passengers to get a real feel for Downton Abbey.
Lady Carnarvon commented: “Viking and Highclere Castle have been linked through Downton Abbey and my close friendship with Karine for more than a decade, and we are delighted to continue welcoming the extended Viking family to experience everyday life at our home.”
